How Much Does a Magician Cost in Las Vegas?
Nobody in this city publishes their rates, which makes budgeting an event unnecessarily annoying. So here are real numbers, what moves them, and what to ask before you hand anyone a deposit.
The Short Answer
Between $350 and $5,000+
That range is uselessly wide, which is exactly why most people struggle to budget this. So let me break it into the bands that actually exist in Las Vegas.
$150–$300. Hobbyists, students, and performers early in their career. Some are genuinely good. Most are not insured, which matters more than people expect — most hotels and country clubs will not let an uninsured vendor work.
$350–$900. Working professionals doing private parties and weddings. This is where the majority of real bookings in this city land.
$1,500–$3,000. Corporate work from established performers. Longer sets, bigger rooms, contracts, insurance certificates, and someone who has done a thousand of these.
$5,000 and well beyond. Television names, Strip headliners and full stage illusion productions. You are paying for recognition and production, which is a legitimate thing to buy — just be clear that is what you are buying.
Close-up versus stage — the distinction that changes the price
These are different products and get confused constantly. Close-up and strolling magic happens in guests’ hands as I move between groups. No stage, no sound, no lighting, no setup. Stage illusion needs a stage, load-in time, sound, lighting, often a crew. The second is not better — it is simply a production, and it is priced like one.
For a cocktail hour, a wedding reception, a conference mixer or a trade show booth, close-up is almost always the right answer and the cheaper one.
The three questions worth asking anyone you consider
Are you insured, and can you send a certificate? If the answer is vague, your venue may refuse them at the door. This is the single most common preventable disaster.
How long have you been working, and where? A steady residency or regular corporate work says more than a credit reel. It means someone keeps paying them.
What happens if you are ill? Professionals have a network and will find you a replacement. Hobbyists cancel.

How much does a magician cost in Las Vegas?
For close-up and strolling magic, expect roughly $350 to $600 for a private party, $400 to $900 for a wedding, and $1,500 and up for corporate work. Stage illusion shows and celebrity or television names run considerably higher, often several thousand and into five figures. My own rates start at $350 for private events and $1,500 for corporate.
Why is corporate priced so much higher than a private party?
Longer sets, larger rooms, more people to reach, insurance and contract requirements, earlier arrival, and a much higher cost to the client if anything goes wrong. Corporate bookings also compete for the same December and convention-week dates, which are finite.
What actually drives the price up or down?
Duration first, then guest count, then venue and date. A two-hour cocktail hour for 80 guests costs less than four hours at a convention booth for continuous traffic. Strip and luxury hotel locations carry a small premium. December and major convention weeks are the most expensive dates in the city for any entertainer.
Is it cheaper to book directly rather than through a platform?
Usually, yes. Booking platforms take a cut, and that cut is priced into what you are quoted. Contacting a performer directly through their own site removes that layer.
Should I be suspicious of a very low quote?
Not automatically, but ask two questions: are they insured, and how long have they been working? A magician quoting $150 for a corporate event is either very new or does not carry the liability insurance most venues require. Both are risks you are absorbing, not them.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
With me, 10% holds the date and the balance is due the day of the show. Many performers ask for 50% upfront. Neither is wrong, but it is worth knowing which you are agreeing to.
How long should I book a magician for?
For a cocktail hour, two hours covers roughly 100 to 150 guests in small groups. For a full reception, two to three hours. Trade show booths work better in blocks with breaks than as one continuous stretch.
How far in advance should I book?
For December holiday parties and major Las Vegas convention weeks, 30 to 90 days. Outside those windows shorter notice is often fine.
Does a magician need a stage, sound or lighting?
Close-up and strolling magic needs none of it — no stage, no microphone, no lighting, no setup time. Stage illusion shows are an entirely different production conversation.
What insurance should a magician carry?
Ask for liability coverage and a certificate of insurance. Most Las Vegas hotels, resorts and country clubs require one from every vendor before load-in. I carry $100,000 and can send the certificate straight to your coordinator.
